If you haven't read Stolen Lives by Malika Oufkir, do so. And then follow up with the sequel Freedom. In it Malika reflects on life after her 20 year imprisonment in a Moroccan desert jail. Her words resonate...
"Dear God, have I been asleep for an entire century?"
"I have enough toubles of my own without worrying about those of others, but distress calls out to me: it's stronger than I am, and I just can't look the other way."
"I am the daughter and granddaughter of Berbers; I feel more at ease with thrift than pointless indulgence."
And now maybe I can stop reading and get some sleep...

Sounds very good. Have been looking for another book to read since I've just finished one.
Read both. And I just found out that she has a website
www.malikao.com
Scratch that. It isn't up and running yet!
